From Forum Nokia:
Fruits ApS, a Danish systems integrator specializing in mobile digital-pen solutions, has collaborated with IBM and Nokia to help DHL Solutions. The project has streamlined DHL's deliveries to retail customers, accelerated invoicing, and moved DHL Solutions closer to its goal of a paperless back office.
As part of the solution, each DHL Solutions driver will be equipped with a Nokia Digital Pen. Delivery recipients will use the pens to sign for their shipments. The Nokia Digital Pen connects wirelessly via a Nokia phone to an IBM eServer in DHL's head office and transmits the delivery data. In areas without wireless service, the Nokia Digital Pen will store the delivery information and customer signature, then forward it to the server as soon as the driver enters a wireless-coverage area.
The solution also sends the delivery information to a Web site that DHL Solutions customers can use to check deliveries. "Our customers have an immediate need to know when a delivery has been completed," says Kurt Nielsen, IT director at DHL Solutions. "This is the kind of efficiency that sets DHL apart from the competition."
