After a historic win in Adelaide, the Indian cricket team is back in action today, playing the 3rd test against the Aussies in a packaged Melbourne Cricket ground. Steve Waugh believes this is the biggest test match after a long time, and in what seemed an outrageous suggestion at the onset of the series, Australia are on brink of their first series loss at home for 11 years. This are indeed the testing times for Australian team, but adversity has brought the best out of this side and they will be focused as ever.
The curator has promised a pacy pitch and according to him it’s the fastest pitch in Australia.
Australia have started to feel the affects of playing without their match-winning bowlers, Glenn McGrath and Shane Warne along with the injured Jason Gillespie against a team regarded as one of the best batting sides in the world.
One welcome news is the return of Brett Lee who has an impeccable record against India – 13 wickets at an average of 14.15 in his first two Tests two years ago. But like batting, you need your bowlers to be effective from both ends and without McGrath at the other end, it’s different ball game.
The good news is Zaheer Khan is fit again and sure to play a crucial role in this game. One concern has been the batting form of Sachin. The little master Sachin, hasn’t fired yet in this series and this is the same ground last time where he went on to make a century in the first inning and 50 odd in the second. Sanjay Jha writes an interesting open letter to Sachin, asking him to enjoy his cricket, be immune to criticism and visualize his goals. The captain Sourav Ganguly believes Sachin is due to return to his dominant best in the 3rd test.
“I can’t remember Sachin going through a series without putting up a big score. That’s good for us because there are two crucial Tests and if he fires, we are going to be in a good position,” Ganguly said. Tendulkar has managed 0, 1 and 37 in the two Tests so far.
This is indeed going to be another exciting test match for all cricket lovers.
